Community Center St. Gerold

The four-storey solitary building made of timber and complying with passive energy standards unites the community center, the town hall, the kindergarten and the village shop on the steep southern slope in the Great Walser Valley.

Mountain Chapel

The chapel is located on the crest of the Vordere Niedere Alpe. Two trails lead to the wooden sacral building. Light is only admitted into the interior through a gap which detaches the altar wall from the building.

The popular public bath from the 60's has been renovated and extended by a wellness area. The impression of concurrently swimming in the park and in the city is conveyed by the spatial design and the deliberate choice of material.

Primary School Doren

The primary school is integrated into the village structure; it is located on a steeply sloping ground surrounded by the church, the rectory and the town hall. The five-storey building is shaped like a cube with a structure of exposed concrete; in contrast, untreated beech tree is used for the interior constructions.

Lebenshilfe Residential Home Gisingen

The extension of the existing building increases the quality of living for people with disabilities. The structure presents itself as clear and functional, with a smooth transition between the exterior and the covered seating areas.

Fire Station and Culture Centre

The driveway and the garage of the fire station are on the lower level and are made of concrete and steel. The access to the Culture Center – an entirely wooden construction – is on the upper floor where the event hall, the rehearsal rooms and the exhibition space of the Women's Museum are located.

Culture is represented in the modern construction of wooden elements and the integrated fire brigade is technically reflected in concrete, steel and glass. The different definitions of the front and backside of the building increase this polarization.
