Book
Architecture and Building Culture in Vorarlberg enjoys great international appreciation. Its ecological commitment and cultural impact set benchmarks. For this reason, our book “Architecture in Vorarlberg” will also be released in an English edition in January 2026.
The volume gathers selected architectural projects and compelling building portraits from the year 2000 onward, offering a comprehensive overview of the continuation of a development that has been underway in Vorarlberg since the 1960s. It documents 50 outstanding projects—from Dornbirn to Montafon and from Bregenz Forest to the Rhine Valley. The typological range spans from a biomass heating plant to a mountain chapel, and from subsidised housing to a timber‑frame school.
Essays illuminate the background of Vorarlberg’s building culture and highlight current focal points. Complementing the project section, they discuss aspects of ecological construction, regional craft traditions, community buildings, and urbanisation in the “Four‑Countries” region. Additionally, interviews with protagonists from Vorarlberg provide insight into the vibrant workshop of construction practice and the working methods of architects, offices, and collaborative teams.
