Aufgrund des schlechten baulichen Zustands der Schulgebäude aus den 1960er/70er Jahren war eine Sanierung notwendig geworden. Als erster von drei Bauabschnitten wurde 2013 die Mittelschule fertiggestellt. Energiekonzept: kontrollierte Be- und Entlüftung, Passivhaus-Standard, Photovoltaik- und Solaranlage.

It is one of Europe’s largest office buildings designed as a wood-hybrid construction. It serves as an example for sustainability, resource awareness and innovation for which the scenery in Vadans provides a dazzling backdrop.

The new community center and the new fire station create an attractive ensemble for the village at the road to the Montafon and corresponds harmoniously with the surroundings.

Zwischen Krankenhaus und Sozialzentrum steht dieses Mehrgenerationenwohnhaus mit barrierefreien, betreubaren Einheiten und integriertem Kindergarten. Großes Augenmerk wurde auf die Qualität des gemeinsamen Außenraums gelegt. Das Gebäude wurde als Passivhaus errichtet.

Farmhouses with barns are rare in Walgau. This one from 1841 is largely preserved in its structure and materialisation. The complex and function-related structure across different levels reappears on the inside. Old and new – made from steel – can clearly be distinguished.

The bridge support structure, which is made of concrete, ensures the safe passage of pedestrians and cyclists; it also moves the supporting structure upwards, and the irregularly arranged diagonal tension and compression rods form an open bridge house.

The wooden house accommodates the kindergarten and club rooms. The roof of the fire brigade’s massive, concrete vehicle hall is a play area for children. This is a formative building for the village in every aspect.

The new buildings with their clear design and reduced materiality are a contrast to the existing buildings. A cross is incised into the front wall of the chapel made of exposed concrete. An urn wall was built parallel to the old cemetery wall. Other features of the cemetery are a well, the walk-through chapel and finally a communal grave.

The multipurpose building with a panoramic view is built on the site of the fire station. The old building forms the torso of the new building. The cube’s exterior wall of the rooms along the street is kept simple.

The four-storey solitary building made of timber and complying with passive energy standards unites the community center, the town hall, the kindergarten and the village shop on the steep southern slope in the Great Walser Valley.

The tourist information that also serves as a bus stop is a prominent landmark on the wayside and also invites to take a break. The alpine building interprets the concept of a roof, a bench and a closet in a range spanning from idiosyncratic to funny.

The small shop with an elegant tasting room combines a Montafon house with the passion for fine spirits. The distillery and the workshop on the ground floor evoke the image of a small working machine.

The eponymous animal once grazed on this spot. Today this place at the Arlberg is occupied by a space saver which is functional and playful in details.

The distillation of fruit brandies is an art form. A modern building component that is attached to the down-to-earth Montafonerhaus with a ribbon of glass provides the prerequisites.

Exposed concrete was used for the sharp-edged structure of the mortuary chapel, accompanied by a simple interior made entirely of rough-sawn fir.The extension covers the urn wall and the necessary infrastructure of the cemetery.

The Raiffeisen Bank in the attractive town center of Schruns is neighboured by the church and the municipal office and directly connects to the second row. The building parts are united under one roof after the renovation and the new construction.

The construction of the community center closes the existing ensemble of the church, the school house and the inn from the valley. It was built according to passive energy standards; only wood from the biosphere reservation Großes Walsertal was used.

The small barn has developed into a functional event centre Possible utilisations of the building are cultural events, conferences, symposia or the hosting of the "artists in residence”. The contrast between "the rough” and "the fine” are realised brilliantly.

The building complex interferes only minimally with the topography of the town and imitates the scale of the adjacent single-family development. The project includes 66 units and those for the assisted living communities were completed during the third construction phase.

The community center Ludesch is an example from the textbook for dedicated sustainable construction by using only local timber, renewable raw materials and strictly non-toxic materials based on the approach of regional value enhancement.

The community center was awarded the Bauherrenpreis in 2004 and unites the elementary school, the municipal administration office, an inn and the village shop under one roof. The design of the solid wood construction met with wide approval among citizens and decision-makers who were integrated in the process from the beginning.

The small extension with the sports hall and the kindergarten appears to be reserved and small. The requirement to leave the stock from the 50s unchanged and the illumination of the classrooms were prioritized. Thus, the gym is embedded and the wooden box that houses the kindergarten is superimposed within distance.

The showroom and sales room with its three glazed sides is staged as a light fixture. Thus, the outward appearance of the portable cube represents its function as an object.

The raw-edged white fir barks on the outside already hint at the inner workings. 'Rustic' is newly interpreted and defined by meticulous details. There are countless inspirations for the guests such as the door and window locks, the faucets and the soap dispensers.

Despite of the same concept, the valley and the mountain station evoke different experiences. The all-over glazed steel halls and an art-in-building project that plays with color and sunshine characterize the Kriegerhornbahn.

The design of the park was inspired by English gardens and the grand villa has developed into an exhibition and event location. The architectural-historical processes remain noticeable and the historical substance is enriched by functional fixtures.

The workshop and residential building of a former textile company fulfilled all the requirements for a town hall due to its location at the town centre. The course of the Mühlebach flowing below the three-storey hall is noticeable throughout the building. While the glazed front construction provides access to a public service zone, the back part of it accommodates the offices, the meeting rooms as well as the seminar and lecture room.

The spacious square with the long narrow reception building hides the extent of the cultural centre. The combination of the old depot, which houses a restaurant, and the new building used for concerts and exhibitions is thus highlighted perfectly.

The lightweight timber structure of the riding hall, which delicately spans 15 x 30 metres, is worth seeing and a trip to the provost on the steep southern slope of the Walsertal is recommended.

The 8-passenger monocable gondola lift leads from Vandans via Latschau up to the Montafon Golm. Transparent glazed scales and rich colors are consistent features of the individual stations of the cableway.

The clubhouse is small and coherent and the landscape "design" of the golf course in its exceptional, high-alpine location is remarkable.

The Berghaus and Hotel Stützpunkt Bielerhöhe are located within the wild mountain scenery above the lake. Its form clearly relates to the local topography and the dam. It is an individual statement about the building style in the Alps.
