Das denkmalgeschützte Haus mit markantem Treppengiebel auf der Westseite ist eines der ältesten Häuser in der Stadt (teilweise Mitte 15. Jhdt.). Der Fachwerkbau wurde durch Sanierung, Umbau und Erweiterung um einen Neubau aus Sichtbeton zum modernen Ensemble für "Gemeinsames Wohnen".

Ob Miet-, Mietkauf- oder Eigentumswohnung ist von außen nicht ersichtlich. Die gleichwertige Gestaltung dient der tatsächlichen Durchmischung unterschiedlicher Lebensmodelle und Altersstufen. Dem gemeinschaftlichen Zusammenleben sind auch der geräumige Hof und die Aufenthaltsbereiche rundherum geschuldet, wo die lockere Definition von Wegen und Nutzungszonen Begegnungen erleichtert.

Das Bezauer Sicherheitszentrum in direkter Nähe zu Gemeindeamt und Bezirksgericht vereint Feuerwehr, Bergrettung, Polizei und Wasserrettung in einem Gebäude. Der zum Dorfzentrum orientierte Vorplatz mit freistehendem Schlauchturm wird zu Übungszwecken, aber auch für Veranstaltungen und Feste genutzt.

In der offenen Struktur, einem "Wald" aus dünnen Stahlstangen, windet sich die schmale Treppe in die Höhe. Kein Schutz vor der Witterung, doch ein außergewöhnliches Naturraumerlebnis.

Die Warteskulptur der belgischen Architekten aus dreieckigen, zusammengeschweißten und weiß lackierten Stahlplatten, erinnert in ihrer Form an eine Bergspitze.

Das spanische Studio schichtet rohe, unbehandelte Eichenbretter zu einem Holzverschlag. Es entsteht ein geschützter, alle Sinne anregender Raum.

Die Bregenzerwälder Stube wird vom Architekten aus Chile thematisiert: Ein präzise detaillierter Glaspavillon mit einer Kassettendecke aus schwarzem Beton, bäuerliche Holzsessel als Sitzgelegenheit und ein Vogelhaus zum Zeitvertreib.

Der Vorschlag aus Russland: Ein radikal einfacher Turm aus Holz, Öffnungen nach allen Seiten, an drei verglast, im ersten Stock offene Luken.

Das norwegische Wartehäuschen sorgt für Multifunktionalität: Die einfache Holzkonstruktion, mit Schindeln verkleidet, ist gleichzeitig Zuschauertribüne für den benachbarten Tennisplatz.

Der Vorschlag aus China bietet Aussicht: Ein konischer Raum, der sich zur Strasse öffnet und mit dem Fenster an der Rückwand die Blickachse zu den Bergen rahmt.

Mit seiner einfachen und kompakten Form geht der viergeschoßige Holzbau mit Satteldach sensibel auf den städtebaulichen Kontext ein. Gleichzeitig behauptet sich das stattliche Gebäude im Umfeld klein- und großmaßstäblicher Bauten öffentlicher und privater Nutzung.

Das Pfarrhaus ist Teil der umfassenden ortsräumlichen Erneuerung Krumbachs und vereint verschiedene öffentliche Funktionen unter einem Dach: Pfarrsaal, Bücherei, Musikräume. Errichtet in Passivhausstandard, gebaut aus gemeindeeigenem Holz, konsequenter Einsatz ökologisch und baubiologisch unbedenklicher Materialien.

Der "Jöslar" im Ortskern von Andelsbuch ist eine Bregenzerwälder Wirtshauslegende. Nach dem Ableben des langjährigen Wirten wurde das Lokal neu verpachtet. Nicht nur der Name wurde vom neuen Betreiber beibehalten: Das Gebäude wurde für zeitgemäße Anforderungen adaptiert und saniert ohne die bestehenden Qualitäten aufzugeben.

The Werkraum Haus promotes craft and is at the same time a meeting place, a festival hall, a showcase and much more. The large roof is supported by fourteen wooden hinged pillars and stiffened by three black concrete cubes creating an inviting gesture.

A mansion-like annex next to the park of the Palais Thurn und Taxis extends the gymnasium that has been existing for 100 years. Although the buildings are connected in the basement, the complex is made exceptionally attractive by the courtyards.

Mit wenigen gezielten Engriffen wurden die klassischen Ganggrundrisse (Originalbau 1960er Jahre, Architekt Jakob Albrecht) in eine zeitgemäße Schule mit offenen Lernlandschaften verwandelt. Durch die thermische Sanierung wurden die gestaffelten Baukörper noch plastischer herausgearbeitet

The museum naturally matches the adjacent cultural buildings in height and volume and expands the newly designed grain market towards the lake with the buckled south-west façade.

The traditional inn was rebuilt and the view over Lake Constance is still breathtaking. The terrace and the dining rooms were newly designed.

Das Ensemble des alten Bauernhauses mit Stall, Wohnhaus und einem Gebäude für Molkeverarbeitung, Verköstigung und Verwaltung wurde erweitert. Im vorderen Gebäude befinden sich Hofladen, Sennerei und Reifekeller. Dahinter der moderne Stall mit Sichtbetonwänden und Glasflächen Richtung Süden.

Das gesamte Areal "Am Kaiserstrand" – lange als Bundesheerkaserne genutzt – steht unter Denkmalschutz. Das Gebäude mit dem markanten Treppengiebel (1910) fand zur ursprünglichen Nutzung zurück und dient heute wieder als Hotel. Teile der Kasernenanlagen aus der NS-Zeit wurden abgebrochen, der Rest wurde saniert und umgenutzt und durch zwei "Residenzen" als Neubauten flankiert. Das hölzerne Badehaus am See komplettiert das Ensemble und dient als Sonnenterrasse und Strandcafé.

Vier Baukörper um einen zentralen Platz, fünfgeschossig zur stark frequentierten Arlbergstraße, dreigeschoßig in Richtung Park. Die 74 Wohnungen sind in Passivhausstandard ausgeführt. Flexible Grundrisstypologie und Errichtungskosten entsprechen den Vorgaben für geförderten sozialen Wohnbau.

Mitten in der Marktgemeinde Lauterach entstand auf dem ehemaligen Areal des Bauunternehmens Schertler-Alge ein neues Gemeinde- und Sozialzentrum für Jung und Alt. Zwei miteinander verbundene Baukörper nehmen unterschiedliche Nutzungen für alle Altersgruppen auf und schaffen in ihrer L-förmigen Anordnung einen öffentlichen Platz.

The neutral funeral parlour is illuminated by light passing through a continuous slit. Texture only originates from the horizontal formwork of the white varnished fair-faced concrete walls on the inside. The entrance area is clad in oak panels and thus constitutes the opposite pole to the boarding of the exposed concrete.

100 years ago the beach of the Palasthotel at the Bodensee pleased Kaiser Karl. During the 1940s the ensemble of buildings was used as barracks; now it shines with new gleam.

The versatile wooden box is located on a small leisure island that is connected with the Kaiserstrand via a long bridge. Depending on weather, business and atmosphere it can be either opened or completely closed.

The house for children is made of wood and shows full-scale integration into the village structure. Carefully handcrafted details and the impressive movement area upstairs are obvious qualities which are complemented by ecological and energy efficient features.

For the construction of the school in Wolfurt which complies with passive energy standards only environmental friendly materials were used. The open ground plan concept which allows multifunctional playability meets the requirements of modern school life optimally.

The Moorrom hovers over the area on six steel pillars. The building that is reduced to the essentials does not even have electricity, provides shelter, the opportunity to rest but also a location for lectures.

The lofty tower with a steel staircase contrasts the compact low-rise building. The development areas are minimised by an ingenious arrangement of the various functional areas. It took some effort to adapt the in-situ concrete structure to passive energy standards.

The traditional inn has transformed into a simple, modern hotel without borrowing the clichés of rustic and alpine tourist facilities.

Although the community center in the style of the 70s is rather inconspicuous from the outside, the interior is worth to be seen. The colored glass walls that divide the offices on both storeys represent a remarkable art project.

The refurbishment, the reconstruction, the landscape modification and the extension make the intentions of the innovative and exemplary attempt to school building construction from the 60s recognizable. The highlight is the view from the gym.

A long story of disputes was put to a happy end. The outstanding and even exemplary result was achieved by the construction of a Kindergarten, a cafe, a civic hall and food market.

The unusual meeting place in the newly developed marina Fußachs plays with the elements light, nature and water. It is a clear cube with a moving concrete structure and crystalline texture on a glass cladding.

The hairdresser and beauty saloon is located centrally on the 1st and 2nd floor of the shopping center. Surprisingly it turns out to be a relaxing area. The internal wooden staircase connects the two areas. The pea green color scheme and the corporate design were created by artist Roland Stecher.

Ein Bäckerei-Imbiss als städtisches Wohnzimmer. Durch vollständige Öffnung der Ladenfront gehen Stadtraum und Lokal nahtlos ineinander über. Dank durchgesteckten Grundrisses lässt sich ein Besuch zugleich zur Passage zwischen Leutbühel und Kaiserstraße nutzen.

The Kaiserstrasse presents itself as a kind of "living room” for pedestrians where they can stop for a snack. You enter from the pedestrian area and exit at Leutbühel. It was deliberately created and designed with the needs of the customers in mind.

Transparent und klar formuliert, stellt sich das Gebäude in der Bregenzer Altstadt neuen Aufgaben. Mit bewusst gesetzten Akzenten wird Licht und Funktionalität in altes Gemäuer geholt. Das interaktive Ambiente zieht Mieter vom Kinderarzt bis zum Architekturbüro an.

Die seit den 1970er Jahren an gleicher Stelle bestehende Grillstube wurde vom Hochwasser im Sommer 2005 schwer beschädigt und musste in Folge abgebrochen werden. Über der neuen Hochwasserverbauung aus groben Bruchsteinen entstand ein ruhiger Baukörper mit filigraner Täfelung. Ein zehn Meter langes Sitzfenster bietet Aussicht auf Dorf und Flusslandschaft.

The chapel is located on the crest of the Vordere Niedere Alpe. Two trails lead to the wooden sacral building. Light is only admitted into the interior through a gap which detaches the altar wall from the building.

Die Zentrale der Landesbank steht am Kreuzungspunkt der Hauptverkehrsstraße. Das verglaste Erdgeschoß öffnet sich mit einspringender Ecke und großzügigen Foyer zur Fußgängerzone. Ein Raster aus großen, vorspringenden Fensterkörpern lenkt den Blick in die Obergeschoße, in denen Büros untergebracht sind.

The arcade for urn graves has been created in the course of the extension of the cemetery as a connection to the whole facility. The level transitions are now terraced and the view and the spatial relationship to the surrounding buildings have been reinforced by the new church square.

The options for development concerning life, living and working that are provided by a 50 square metres large unit are flexible and allow the improvement of spatial quality. New approaches to housing are presented by the interplay of environment, external areas and privacy of the 14 unit complex.

The Schwarzenberger Heimatmuseum (museum of local history) and the exhibition hall for the artist Angelika Kauffmann (1741-1897) are connected by a shared foyer. The character of the original peasant Althaus (1556) has been preserved and adapted to the contemporary demands of a museum.

The traditional inn makes use of the strengths, qualities and resources of the region. Conventionally produced food and beverages that are supplied by the tradesmen and the suppliers of the Bregenzerwald are used consistently.

Not only the shoes are tailor-made at the orthopaedic shoemaker. The overall atmosphere fits into the vault of the old town with the set back shelves and the accentuated seats. The runways and ramps offer suitable shoes for everyone.

A new building, which retained the existing cold stores, was built the location of the old Schnaps distillery. It combines several facilities under one roof: a distillery, a retail space, a tasting room, a liquor warehouse, a machinery hall and a workshop

Schimmernd am Ortseingang von Bizau

The first stage of the expansion and transformation of the construction that had been built in 1979 was conducted in 1992 and it was finally finished in 2006. The two huge rod-shaped building elements divide the complex into a studio and workshop stage, a large hall and a stage at the lakeside. The generous urban square in front conveys international flair not only at times of festivals.

The seven single-family, terraced houses in compact wooden construction are only connected underground. The staggered positioning of the units optimizes the illumination and provides each unit with a private and secluded garden.

The positioning of the four organically shaped buildings with a total of 76 apartments arises from the interplay of the topography, the incidence of light and the geometry. The parts of the complex are playfully arranged like waves and thus a shadow-free position to each other is guaranteed.

The swank and modern sport hotel is situated directly at the lower terminus of the Steffisalp-Cableway. After an extension, it now offers 56 rooms and a wellness oasis.

The reconstruction of the old hall in the industrial area of Wolfurt sets new standards by consistently following the mission statement and making an example at the same time. The cladding of black glazed cement fiber boards was adapted to Passivhaus standard. Prominent are the company logo which is visible from the distance and the generous window hinges on the long sides of the building.

The compact design of the fire and mountain rescue station is made almost entirely of spruce. Only the garage area had to be integrated into the building as a concrete box due to fire-protection and functional requirements.

The privileged location directly on Lake Constance and right in the center of Bregenz determines the orientation of the buildings. The whole complex consists of three buildings offering a total of 54 apartments. The apartments that are set on a base can be reached by porches whereas the apartments facing west have loggias.

Despite of the hose tower, the vehicle depot and command center on the ground floor, the building is not only used "monoculturally”. The cantilevered top floor made of wood accommodates the training rooms and the crew area of the mountain rescue team, which can be accessed via a separate staircase.

The strengths of the corner house located in the traffic-reduced center of Bregenz are the outdoor areas and the great quality of living. It features a facade of glass and aluminium, a spacious entrance hall, offices on the ground floor and apartments on the upper floors.

Schlanke, anthrazitfarbene Betonteile strukturieren den verglasten Baukörper, der ein vertikales Gegenstück zu den Gebäuden der ehemaligen Textilindustrie mit lagerhaften Strukturen wie der Shedhalle, der Villa und der Portiershalle darstellt.

The same handwriting can be recognized in all new buildings – the kindergarten, the café and the grocery store. The location and the created clearances form the exemplary village center of Langenegg fulfilling the highest claim for ecological and energy minimization.

The old building was renovated and reconstructed and is now a place for art. A convention hall is located upstairs and a small agricultural museum of local history is situated at the ground floor. An exciting contrast is created by the visible old constructions and new installations.

The feel-good-atmosphere is conveyed by the materials – reinforced concrete and wood – as well as by the properties – clarity and transparency – in a modern architectural language. Further contributions to the village life and its locations are the rooms for two groups of kindergarten children on the ground floor and a music rehearsal room on the first floor.

After repeated reconstructions and extensions the former farm building at the Seestrasse in Hard now houses an inn with a basement bar, a convention hall in the attic and several guest rooms.

The cultural centre and office building Schoppernau unites a bank, a tourism office, a hairstylist, a local ensemble, a library and a museum. Untreated silver fir, continuous asphalt floor and ceiling high glazing are the attributes of the new building which blends in perfectly with the existing village structure.

The elliptical bathhouse with its comfy, well organised sauna and wellness area is worth a relaxing visit. The new lobby, the restaurant expansion and the bedroom wing should not be missed too.

The primary school is integrated into the village structure; it is located on a steeply sloping ground surrounded by the church, the rectory and the town hall. The five-storey building is shaped like a cube with a structure of exposed concrete; in contrast, untreated beech tree is used for the interior constructions.

Der sachliche Sichtbetonbau des Käsekellers bekommt mit den Fassadenlöchern eine augenzwinkernde Referenz auf das Produkt, um das es hier geht. Im Innern bietet eine Glasscheibe zwischen Besuchs- und Produktionsraum freie Sicht auf den Reifungsprozess des Käses.

Culinary as well as tasteful spatial qualities have become apparent after the reconstruction. The entrance – a glass container used to present wines – surprises; differentiated open areas such as the terrace, the lawn, the gravel yard and the light-filled dining rooms offer an exclusive feel-good atmosphere.

Die Gebäude mit den einzelnen Funktionen wie Hochregallager und Transformator wirken skulptural in der von den Landschaftsarchitekten Rotzler Krebs gestalteten Umgebung. In der Nacht lässt die hinterleuchtete Fassade das Gebäude hell-transparent wirken und relativiert somit die Schwere des profanen Zweckbaus.

Der futuristische Baukörper in silberfarbener Fiberglashaut mit leuchtenden Rot- und Orangeakzenten erinnert an ein Flugobjekt. Terminal V dockt an den Bürotrakt des Wohnbauträgers an, potenziellen Wohnungskäufern wird im Inneren die zukünftige Wohnwelt visualisiert.

The "Walserhaus" is managed by the fourth generation and combines very old building structures and elements from the 60s with the new extension. Ayurveda, the expanded restaurant, the whole food shop, the seminar room and the lobby are formally reduced and assembled with natural materials.

After several periods of growth, the Krone now offers 60 rooms. Between 1998 and 2002 the hotel underwent an expansion that was facilitated quickly by using exclusively pre-assembled guest modules.The façade of the building is formed by transparent vertical blinds and the inside is characterised by the charm of rough sawn wood.

The clearly structured building attracts not only people with a toothache. Three artists left their mark. The attractions are an oversized photograph, an abstract set of teeth featured in front of a pink concrete wall and pink tulips in the form of a row of teeth as a counterpart.

The lower "drawer” seems to be "pulled out” of the three-storey box and surrounds the sheltered courtyard. While the upper floors are occupied by the care facilities, the ground floor area is dedicated to public life.

Up to the roof terrace the interplay between interior and exterior as well as open and covered areas of the integrated multi-purpose hall is expertly presented by the placement of the structure and the pergola.

The driveway and the garage of the fire station are on the lower level and are made of concrete and steel. The access to the Culture Center – an entirely wooden construction – is on the upper floor where the event hall, the rehearsal rooms and the exhibition space of the Women's Museum are located.

Culture is represented in the modern construction of wooden elements and the integrated fire brigade is technically reflected in concrete, steel and glass. The different definitions of the front and backside of the building increase this polarization.

The furniture store along the road to Bregenz attracts attention with its oversized, generous, glazed showcase. The building as an entity is window display, entrance gate and lobby at the same time, and also provides exhibition space for artistic interventions.

Compact housing saves energy. Thus, the eight units have optimized external areas with a centered and central circulation. The implementation of the technical details consistently complies with ecological and sustainability standards.

The beautiful spot on a sunny hillside offers self-catering kitchens to sports enthusiasts and people looking for peace and quiet on the one hand. On the other hand they are provided with the "restless” infrastructure which meets the functional and aesthetic expectations.

Am Schnittpunkt zweier Bundesstraßen und am Ausgang der Bahnsteigunterführung zum Bodensee, unmittelbar neben der Verkehrsbrache des ehemaligen Bahnhofsareals gelegen, ist der Bau eine wichtige Punktsetzung im Wegenetz zwischen Stadt und See.

A construction of prefabricated reinforced concrete has been added to the existing restaurant at 1700 m above sea level. The architecture provides a new hotel concept which has been implemented in clear and uncompromising forms with courage and steadfastness.

An idyllic place near the old town was an appealing starting point. The three buildings strongly respond to the topology and follow the natural setting of the back slope and the valleys.

The new building in its prominent location opposite the harbour follows the course of the road and forms two courtyards by wrapping the existing L-shaped building in a block-like manner. The glazed upper floors with metal slats rest on a base area of black concrete.

The strict dark bulk which is covered in slates is not only the convention hall of the rapidly expanding city Wolfurt but also its new centre.

A place of art; and a place for people who want to experience artwork at their leisure. The outplacement of administrative units, shops and cafes directs the focus on the essential function of the solitary building: the exhibition.

The slim, small structure in front of the Kunsthaus shows the same attributes on the inside as on the outside: Black. Minimalistic. Elegant. An urban feeling is tangible during the summer months. Designer odds and ends can be bought in the shop.

The municipal building adapts skilfully to the terrain. The south-eastern part - the fire station - follows the course of the road, and the community hall is located at the ground level. The Mayor’s office, the family counselling center and the rehearsal studio are upstairs.

The new wing is an extension to the existing hotel complex; it is structured by the added layer of balconies made of light wood. It offers spacious rooms and imposing mountain scenery.

In the mountain village and high society skiing resort Warth the two-class school is equipped with all special rooms that are available for the village community as well. The large cantilevered roof that can carry 500 tons of snow attracts attention.

The various recent modifications of the stately Hotel Post are as interesting as the indoor tennis court on the lower level with its special design of the concrete base and the arched trusses of the wooden construction of the part that towers from the earth.
