Das denkmalgeschützte Haus mit markantem Treppengiebel auf der Westseite ist eines der ältesten Häuser in der Stadt (teilweise Mitte 15. Jhdt.). Der Fachwerkbau wurde durch Sanierung, Umbau und Erweiterung um einen Neubau aus Sichtbeton zum modernen Ensemble für "Gemeinsames Wohnen".

Ob Miet-, Mietkauf- oder Eigentumswohnung ist von außen nicht ersichtlich. Die gleichwertige Gestaltung dient der tatsächlichen Durchmischung unterschiedlicher Lebensmodelle und Altersstufen. Dem gemeinschaftlichen Zusammenleben sind auch der geräumige Hof und die Aufenthaltsbereiche rundherum geschuldet, wo die lockere Definition von Wegen und Nutzungszonen Begegnungen erleichtert.

Die einzelnen Wohneinheiten haben zonierte, private Außenräume und gut belichtete Innenräume. Die gemeinsame Laubengangerschließung verbindet die beiden Gebäude, bietet Platz für Aufenthalt und Kommunikation und öffnet sich zum Innenhof.

Den Architekten war es wichtig, die ehemalige Textilfabrik als wichtigen Teil der lokalen Identität zu begreifen. Der Charakter des Bestands sollte bewahrt werden, der einstige Zweckbau spürbar bleiben. Es galt, die vorhandenen Qualitäten für zeitgemäßes und unkonventionelles Wohnen zu nutzen und geeignet umzudeuten.

Zwischen Krankenhaus und Sozialzentrum steht dieses Mehrgenerationenwohnhaus mit barrierefreien, betreubaren Einheiten und integriertem Kindergarten. Großes Augenmerk wurde auf die Qualität des gemeinsamen Außenraums gelegt. Das Gebäude wurde als Passivhaus errichtet.

Zwei kompakte Baumassen mit gleicher Funktion und doch unterschiedlichen Rahmenbedingungen: 'Am Garnmarkt 10' sollte als Eigentum attraktiv sein, während 'Am Garnmarkt 20' die Vorschriften für den gemeinnützigen Wohnbau einhält. Jede Wohneinheit hat eine uneinsichtige Terrasse. Die Außenraumqualität ist dadurch hoch, es entstehen großzügige Spielflächen.

Vier Baukörper um einen zentralen Platz, fünfgeschossig zur stark frequentierten Arlbergstraße, dreigeschoßig in Richtung Park. Die 74 Wohnungen sind in Passivhausstandard ausgeführt. Flexible Grundrisstypologie und Errichtungskosten entsprechen den Vorgaben für geförderten sozialen Wohnbau.

The condominium copies the old town hall, which was pulled down, in volume and form. Additional space requirements are covered by two restrained structures facing the Marktstrasse which are adapted to the dimensions of this inner city location.

Die Wohnanlage vermittelt feinkörnig zwischen den voluminösen Industriegebäuden und der kleinteiligen Einfamilienhausbebauung in der Nachbarschaft. Die Baukörper bilden zwei lockere Reihen mit unterschiedlichen Hofräumen dazwischen für Licht und Sicht.

A new inner-city district was created with the redesign of the centre of Dornbirn around the City Hall and the residential and office buildings of the former Ulm-area. This high-density district responds with individual cubes to the villas of the neighborhood, the cemetery and the Mohren-Brewery. The high-rise will be rebuilt and extended by seven condominiums.

In the center of Dornbirn the old Ölz manufactury has been transformed into a low-energy residential building. Some rooms of the 14 loft apartments that revitalize the existing structure are as high as 3.5 meters.

Two units for assisted living communities are arranged in a clear form on two storeys with a special color scheme, providing a high quality of living and integrating well into the residential area. The terrace of the wooden construction opens up into the garden and the glazing from the top to the floor allows an unobstructed view even in a lying position.

The outdated council house has been upgraded with the help of glass, aluminium and a friendly color concept. Clearances, staircases and outdoor units have been redesigned. The houses comply with passive energy standards because the winter gardens serve as thermal buffers.

The building marks the beginning of a large residential development along the river Ill. As a counterpart to the old spinning mill, the seven-storey residential building with a supermarket on the ground floor rises wrapped in black natural slate. The prerequisites for the future extension have already been created.

The options for development concerning life, living and working that are provided by a 50 square metres large unit are flexible and allow the improvement of spatial quality. New approaches to housing are presented by the interplay of environment, external areas and privacy of the 14 unit complex.

The seven single-family, terraced houses in compact wooden construction are only connected underground. The staggered positioning of the units optimizes the illumination and provides each unit with a private and secluded garden.

The building complex interferes only minimally with the topography of the town and imitates the scale of the adjacent single-family development. The project includes 66 units and those for the assisted living communities were completed during the third construction phase.

The three-storey condominium is designed for lofts which facilitates a densification between the industrial district and the residential area with detached single-family houses.

Bewusst wurde bei dem Projekt eine dichtere Bebauung als in der Nachbarschaft üblich gewählt. Die zweigeschossige Wohnanlage wurde als Versuchsfeld für eine kostengünstige ökologische Bauweise mit Niedrigenergiestandard gesehen. Die Wohnungen werden über halböffentliche Eingangsloggien, als schwellenlose Übergange vom öffentlichen in den privaten Bereich, betreten.

Detailgenau und geplant, bis zur Terrassenbepflanzung

The striking exposed masonry made of rough brick gives the condominium in Oberndorf a Dutch atmosphere. The ceiling-high wooden windows, the loggias, the balconies and the terraces ensure a smooth transition to the outer area.

A maximum of quality of living can be enjoyed in the terraced house that was realized with a small budget and is made of one hundred percent wood. The compactness of the building, the wood element construction and orientation to the southeast prove its passive house qualities.

Classy dwelling combined with the quality of living of single-family homes is possible in apartment buildings as well. The housing units are grouped around a glazed, light-flooded atrium. The spatial planning allows that apartments can also be combined.

Compact housing saves energy. Thus, the eight units have optimized external areas with a centered and central circulation. The implementation of the technical details consistently complies with ecological and sustainability standards.

doch noch Platz für ein Mehrfamilienhaus

An idyllic place near the old town was an appealing starting point. The three buildings strongly respond to the topology and follow the natural setting of the back slope and the valleys.

Four two-storey buildings line up along the street with an open view over the Rhine Valley. Due to the compact shape of the building, particularly good insulation, tested air tightness and a mechanical ventilation system the heating demand has been minimized.

The two dark buildings mediate between urban shapes and individual single family-houses in the city center. The apartments are arranged around the central staircase like a pinwheel. Thus, each apartment faces two cardinal directions.

The complex is an outstanding prototype for the development of a timber construction system which is suitable for multi-storey residential buildings. The construction is based on a modular system with prefabricated elements that are laid out in a grid.

Six houses are linked together on the western slope and form a differentiated entity caused by alterations in materialization and deep-cut terraces.

A classic is Ruhwiesn. It is Vorarlberg’s first estate that was created by a joint ownership as a radically economical timber construction with a high self-build contribution.
